Tokyo is a fine example of what BrewDog can brew. Primarily an imperial stout beer, it wears a black robe and a beige head. To the nose, you will get aromas of calvados, candied dates, coffee powder and pear syrup. The taste features touches of fruits, chocolate and malt. There is a distinct flavor of cranberries. The taste of Tokyo is quite intriguing and strong. The beer is thick, concentrated and feels quite syrupy. It has an oily feel on the palate, along with the warmth of alcohol. The aftertaste is long, bitter and has the dash of alcohol. Carbonation is soft.
Tokyo is a prime example of innovation from BrewDog brewery. It adds elements of cranberry in what looks and feels like an imperial stout beer. Experts do not dismiss the presence of jasmine flowers in the mash! It makes the brew so much more interesting and unique, true to the motto of BrewDog.
There’s table seating for groups, but the most fun to be had is at the bar, where the friendly and knowledgeable staff entice drinkers with unfamiliar tipples. It isn’t the cheapest place in town, and the stodgy food selection falls a long way short of the quality of the beer – but if it’s the latter you’re after, Brewdog is hard to beat.
